dj.henri spins African music at numerous NYC venues including SummerStage, the Apollo Theater, and B.B. King’s. He also launched Radio Africa Online, the web’s longest-running African all-music station, in 2002. One thing he remembers vividly is back in 2014 hearing Yemi Alade’s first big chart-topper “Johnny” and playing it on the station right away. He spins Afrobeats as well as the original Afro-beat, Fela Kuti’s creation. He’s opened for innumerable artists from Nigeria, including Femi Kuti, Seun Kuti, Tony Allen, and Ebenezer Obey, as well as some of the top stars from all over Africa, including Salif Keita (three times), Vieux Farka Toure (five times), and Black Coffee. dj.henri’s podcast (https://is.gd/grb4bc) includes four episodes of music from Nigeria, which enjoy many terabytes of traffic.
